Gardens of Southern Ireland
Sunday 30 May to Thursday 3 June 2027
A delightful five-day garden holiday exploring Ireland's beautiful south-east
After much hype and discussion, a short recce and lots of back and forward to the hotel we can finally invite you to join us for a wonderful springtime escape to the Emerald Isle, discovering some of Ireland's most celebrated gardens, charming countryside and warm Irish hospitality.
Following in the footsteps of Jim and Valerie's much-loved original tour back in 2006, we have brought together five very different gardens, each offering something special. From magnificent formal landscapes and spectacular views to peaceful woodland walks and hidden garden treasures, there will be plenty to discover and enjoy.
Our home for four nights will be the Ferrycarrig Hotel, beautifully situated overlooking the River Slaney near the historic town of Wexford. With dinner, bed and breakfast included throughout, you can unpack once and simply enjoy the holiday.
Our proposed itinerary
Sunday 30 May – Across to Ireland
We travel through South Wales to Pembroke for our ferry crossing to Rosslare, before continuing to the Ferrycarrig Hotel for our four-night stay.
Monday 31 May – Mount Congreve Gardens and Kilmokea Gardens
Discover the magnificent Mount Congreve Gardens, renowned for their extensive collection of trees, shrubs and flowering plants, set in beautiful surroundings overlooking the River Suir. We also visit the delightful Kilmokea Gardens, a wonderfully peaceful and intimate garden with woodland paths, unusual planting and a real sense of tranquillity.
Tuesday 1 June – Powerscourt Gardens and Mount Usher
A day amongst two of Ireland's most celebrated gardens. At Powerscourt, enjoy sweeping terraces, ornamental lakes, magnificent views of the Wicklow Mountains and a remarkable variety of formal and informal gardens. We continue to Mount Usher, a beautiful garden known for its naturalistic planting, woodland setting and peaceful riverside walks.
Wednesday 2 June – Altamont Gardens and Wexford
Today we visit the enchanting Altamont Gardens, where formal gardens blend into woodland walks, mature trees and tranquil lakeside scenery. There will also be an opportunity to enjoy some free time in the attractive town of Wexford, with its shops, cafés and traditional Irish atmosphere.
Thursday 3 June – Homeward bound
Today we have an early start and we make the short journey to Rosslare for our return ferry crossing, breakfast will be on the ferry, travelling onwards through Wales and home.
The itinerary is provisional.
The order and days of garden visits may change subject to final confirmations and opening arrangements.
